Elio Raffaeli

Master Glassmaker Murano

Elio Raffaeli was born in Venice in 1936 and spent his youth on the island of Murano where he studied.

At the age of 11 he entered to work at the Seguso glassworks where he learned the art of glass from the master Scaramal Piero. For seven years he learned of Scaramal's mastery, becoming first aide.

Raffaeli moved to work at the Vetreria Salviati where he refined his techniques on both blown glass and solid glass techniques.

In 1966 he became Master at the Briati glass factory, where he collaborated with the famous designer Flavio Poli.

Later he worked closely with the famous artist Livio Seguso.
